Prospective Families

St. Mary School is a vibrant, warm, and welcoming Catholic school, located in Mokena, serving students in 3 year old preschool through grade 8. The school community of talented students, supportive parents, dedicated teachers and staff, experienced administration, and an approachable pastor create a caring family atmosphere. This Catholic school’s goal is to help each child grow to their greatest potential, both spiritually and academically.

Since St. Mary Catholic School opened in 1949, the school’s size has grown to now accommodate two classes per grade. Thanks to a parishioner-funded eight million dollar parish expansion in 2003, the facilities are state of the art. School facilities include a music room, art room, library, science lab, twenty-three classrooms, and a cafeteria. In addition, there is a spacious gymnasium, unlike most elementary schools have ever seen. Additional renovations completed in 2017 included the 3-year-old preschool classroom, an updated library, and a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics ) Lab. Despite the growth over the years, the mission has not changed – “Preparing students for the future through spiritual and academic excellence.”

The faculty and staff of St. Mary School provide an exceptional learning environment that allows students to achieve their full potential. St. Mary students continue to perform above the national average at all grade levels in all tested content areas year-after-year.  The core curriculum is reviewed annually in order to help all students develop critical thinking skills through engaged learning. This includes a variety of learning opportunities, including the use of technology at all grade levels. The school’s one-to-one technology initiative provides each student in grades

K-3rd with an iPad and grades 4th - 8th are provided with a Google Chromebook. Preschool has SmartBoards© for educational use.

All faculty and staff participate in the Church’s ministry to assist parents in their role as the primary teachers of the faith to their children. St. Mary is proud of the students and the faculty and staff feel blessed to be part of their educational and spiritual journey. The school works hard to provide a faith-based environment for nurturing children with the same values as their homes. St. May School is not just a student’s academic world.  It becomes their second home – their family.

St. Mary School offers a band program through Music Education beginning in grade 4. Extracurricular programs include “Bright Knights” Chess Club, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, Drawing Club, and Drama Club.  Parent volunteers organize Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts, which meet after school on our campus. St. Mary School has a dynamic athletic program, which includes cheerleading, cross country, flag football, and basketball and volleyball for students in grades 5 – 8.

Parent volunteering is always welcome, and very much appreciated, at St. Mary School. In fact, you can find parents and grandparents serving up nutritional hot lunch or fresh salad and soups from the salad bar, all prepared on-site, daily.  Parents also help plan numerous events that the entire St. Mary School community can enjoy, including a Daddy-Daughter Dance, Mother-Son Evening Out, Men’s Golf Outing, Bunco for Breast Cancer, and so much more.

Bus service is available for those families who reside in the Mokena Public School District #159 for a fee.
