What a wonderful year we have had in first grade! The students have worked so hard and learned many new things. I am so proud of them. In Language Arts they have learned many hard words, become excellent spellers, and are reading quite fluently. They have also done a lot of writing: stories, fairy tales, letters, descriptive and persuasive writing in their journals. In Math the first graders have learned addition and subtraction to 20, fractions, money, time, measurement, and most recently adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. They have watched caterpillars in our classroom change into butterflies and then release them back into nature. They have learned the parts of a plant and planted a windowsill garden. Then have learned about seasons, the water cycle, weather, living/non-living things, and the six animal groups. Most recently they have been exploring the solar system. Our end of the year field trip was to Lake Katherine Nature Center where we learned about animal adaptations, explored an herb garden and trails around the lake, and had fun going on a scavenger hunt. My it’s been a busy year!
Have a wonderful and safe summer!
