Art class this year has been quite hectic! Each of our classes has been working on something very special for the upcoming Gala Event. The students have been showing their artistic abilities by coming up with ideas and working as a group to accomplish this huge feat. This has been occupying most of their time!
Along with that, the PTC has brought in a company called Simply Scribbles who takes our art work and makes them into keepsake items of your choice. Many of you had the chance to order them and I am sure you can tell that our pictures all turned out fantastic!! I am really proud of all of our students.
The Christmas play this year has been a challenge as we did not have a specific place to paint. Our initial coats of paint were done outside when the weather was still fair and as of late we have been painting up on the stage. I have enlisted many students to help in the completion of our scenery and I am happy to report that it is turning out great.
Our regular daily classes have kept us extremely busy.
Kindergarten has learned that if dots go for a walk, they turn into lines and it’s our lines that make up every picture that we create. They even got to make lines without using their hands. Ask them how they did it!! Drawing can be fun from anywhere!!
1st grade started out the year drawing an animal together. They focused on following directions for shape identification and placement. In addition they have completed haunted house goodie bags which I am sure you saw them when they came home for Halloween.
2nd grade has worked on writing their name but coloring it in using words to identify things that make them who they are. For Halloween they created Jack0 lantern reversals which made them focus on color.
Our 3rd grade class had made their own leaf stamps using our magic sponges. Once the sponges were made, they used them to stamp leaves on a tree. The trees were drawn after studying how trees grow and the sizes of their branches. They continued with line and pattern drawing which made them focus on line in a continual pattern. Once completed they colored them in.
Our 4th and 5th grade class completed a color Kaleidoscope using the color wheel as their focus. We studied the color wheel and its characteristics and completed these based on our newly acquired knowledge.
The 6th grade class has been working on Mosaic wooden boxes. They have learned mosaic techniques and pattern by creating their own designs. These were filled in with small plastic pieces and grouted. Once they have been grouted and dried they painted their boxes. Some of them designed them for themselves while others plan to use them for a gift.
7th grade worked on refreshing their sketching abilities with drawings of sunflowers both from a regular size and then from an enlarged perspective. Focus was primarily on their ability to really see what they are drawing and draw it that actual way rather than the way that they think it should be. Egyptian Hieroglyphics was the next area that again focused their drawing abilities but this time from an ancient drawing method.
8th grade began the year reviewing their drawing techniques focusing on shading and detail and continued by using craypas.
